Holy Sh...oes!!  You've written a lot during my short absence!!  Are the good old army days coming back?  We'll have to celebrate!!!  I've noticed that General AleVall didn't show up.  Please,  Chief General Baires,  bring him back...

I like the idea of having an "English Spoken" meeting.  Unfortunately I'm working late nowadays and won't be able to get there before midnight...

@ALEJANDROVALL

26/02/2010

My problem is I speak American , not english , am scare Quique can denounce me  for treason , anyway  am ready when you are for a party ( sorry, meeting  ) , bye Alex always ready for fun

@KUKITYTA

26/02/2010

I'll like to attend to that meeting in order to improve my English.

An other idea: we could watch a movie in English with English subtitles too, and then discuss that movie.
@YA_NI_MIRO

26/02/2010

We've done that for our first (or was it our second?) meeting two years ago (or so).  We also had a karaoke session,  we've met in a bar and discussed topics...  Sometimes our meetings were scheduled and the first part was in english and the second one was open for people who didn't speak english...  Well,  I don't remember all the activities the "English Spoken" forum developed,  (Chief General Baires or General Alevall might have records of everything.)  This doesn't mean that we can't repeat some of them...

Hazelnut, my dear friend! So, your nickname is GRACE_HAZELNUT!
@YA_NI_MIRO

28/02/2010

Hello Gachi_Hazelnut.

Welcome to the army.  If you'd like to know the history of the "English Spoken Forum",  you can seek the older posts.  You can access them through Chief General Baires' profile,  by clicking the  "Foros" link.  I've changed my alias last year.  I was SOLOMIRANDO,  by that time and I don't know if you'll find the forum through my profile...

Don't worry,  we have plenty of music.  I used to be in charge of the "English Spoken" karaoke and I have five different karaoke programs,  about 3000 .kar files and almost 300 video karaokes in english (as well as 3000 more in spanish,  italian,  french and portuguese),  so everyone may know at least one song to sing.  They are midis,  so they don't sound like the real thing,  but for practising and having fun they are ok.  Anyway,  if we organize a karaoke meeting,  I'll appreciate if you bring your CD.  I'm sure it will sound better than my midi files.  (And I grant you that I'll try to copy it...  Hehehe!!)

I hope you enjoy fooling around here.  The idea is to have fun,  without harming anyone.  If you can read parts of the old forum (is't very long) you'll underStand why we call ourselves an army,  and  what our war was/is about.  Things you MUST know,  our Chief General is B.A. TODAY (BAIRESHOY) he's our commander and when he calls,  we answer...  Don't be afraid,  he's very charming gentle with the ladies and has a special training room for newbies in our headquarters...  (Hehehehehehe!!!)

Enough for the fist time...

Welcome aboard!!

I_DON'T_LOOK_ANYMORE (YA_NI_MIRO)
@ALEJANDROVALL

28/02/2010

Bla, bla ,bla , stop yaping and decided when we meet !!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr Baires already is asking  for my palace ,and because  I can denied nothing to Ya ni  I started cleanning the foye if everything goes right  I will be ready for next week , or this friday  , start giving opinions and will set the date , bye Alex the landlord

@YA_NI_MIRO

01/03/2010

Actually your writting is very good,  don't worry about your style and vocabulary.  Sometimes I'm 10 minutes trying to remember the right word...  As a matter of fact,  this should be the "Tarzanglish Spoken Forum",  but we're pretencious...  Hahahahaha!!!  The idea is practising the language,  while having some fun.  No one will think nasty things if your english isn't perfect or correct you,  unless you ask to be corrected,  but we usually do that during the meetings,  to improve our conversation,  and the "Correcting Department" is in charge of General Alevall,  who does it in a very gentle way and only by request.  Relax!!!

Chief General B.A. Today and General Ale:  Please not this Friday!!!  I don't have my backup for the rehearsal and won't get to the meeting until 1 am.  Remember I'm working while everybody's having fun...  You can't do that to me!!!  I think the other week I'll be able to escape early.  Please???  Please????  Ppplllllleeeeeassseeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C.G.B.A.Today.:  Material available for meetings:  of course my karaoke archive (now improved quality!!!) and an interesting amount of movies,  most of them starred by zombies or vampires...  Ooooppps!!  But I've got some jewels like "Twelve angry men" and "Logan's Run".  At your command,  I can send you the list,  and seek the english subtitles for the chosen movies.

Semper Fi!

GENERAL I_DON'T_LOOK_ANYMORE

For the ones who like Karaoke,  there's a Karaoke Meeting on Wednesday,  March 10.  I attended the first one and it was very nice and funny,  and we had a great time.  I'm looking forward for the next.  You can get more info at "Salidas Grupales".  If you can go,  don't miss it!

Although Monday is perfect for me,  it doesn't seem to be a good day for many people.  Next week I won't be able to manage my schedule because Jean-Louis Trintignant is coming to Argentina and if  I'm lucky and my chief keeps his promise,  I'll be the stagemanager to his show and I'll be working from 8 am to 11:30 pm from thursday to sunday.  But the other week,  I can arrange to escape earlier one day...

Hi folks!!

For next Friday's meeting the movies' offer is:

"12 Angry Men" (1957) (1h 36')  Henry Fonda,  Martin Balsam,  Lee J. Cobb  Dir:  Sidney Lumet

The defence and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young Spanish-American is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open and shut case of murder soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other. Based on the play, all of the action takes place on the stage of the jury room. Written by pjk

"Tarzan the Ape Man" (1932) (1h 40')  Johnny Weissmüller - Maureen O'Sullivan  Dir:  WS Van Dyke

Based on Edward Rice Burroughs' characters,  "Tarzan the Ape Man" is full of adventures in exotic landscapes,  with wild animals and scary local tribesmen.  Though it's not at all based on the book of the same name (and I've read them all of them),  it's a movie I always enjoy watching.  It reminds me the good old days when I had no worries...

"Jailhouse Rock" (1957) (1h 36')  Elvis Presley  Dir:  Richard Thorpe

Vince Everett is serving a one-year jail sentence for manslaughter. While in the big house, his cellmate, a former country singer, introduces him to the record business. Everett takes to it so well that he decides to become a singer when he gets out. However, he is quickly disillusioned by the record business. But with the help of a new friend, he decides to form his own label, and soon becomes an overnight sensation. But when he becomes a superstar, will his desire for fame and money cause him to forget the people who got him there? Written by {jgp3553

I'm also working on the subtitling process of:

"Strangers on a Train" (1951) (1h 40')  Farley Granger - Robert Walker  Dir:  Alfred Hitchcock

Psychotic mother's boy Bruno Anthony meets famous tennis professional Guy Haines on a train. Guy wants to move into a career in politics and has been dating a senator's daughter (Ann Morton) while awaiting a divorce from his wife. Bruno wants to kill his father but knows he will be caught because he has a motive. Bruno dreams up a crazy scheme in which he and Guy exchange murders. Guy takes this as a joke, but Bruno is serious and takes things into his own hands. Written by Col Needham

"The Stranger" (1946) (1h 35')  Orson Welles - Edward G. Robinson  Dir:  Orson Welles

Wilson of the War Crimes Commission is seeking Franz Kindler, mastermind of the Holocaust, who has effectively erased his identity. Wilson releases Kindler's former comrade Meinike and follows him to Harper, Connecticut, where he is killed before he can identify Kindler. Now Wilson's only clue is Kindler's fascination with antique clocks; but though Kindler seems secure in his new identity, he feels his past closing in. Written by Rod Crawford

"The Kennel Murder Case" (1933) (1h 14')  William Powell - Mary Astor  Dir:  Michael Curtiz

Archer Coe has been found dead in his locked bedroom. The cops consider it suicide, but Philo believes otherwise. When the Coroner shows up, he finds that Archer had been hit with a blunt obbject, stabbed and shot - making suicide unlikely. When the evidence points to his brother, Brisbane is found stabbed to death in the closet. Archer had a number of enemies, any one of which would have been glad to knock him off, but which one did and how did the murder occur in a room looked from the inside. Only one man, the keen, fascinating, debonair detective Philo Vance, would be able to figure out who is the killer.  Source IMDB

But I'm not sure that I'll be able to have them ready by Thursday night...
@YA_NI_MIRO

15/03/2010

Each plot summary has a different author.  Credits for them are at the end of each synopsis...
@YA_NI_MIRO

15/03/2010

I'm almost done with "The Stranger",  so you can vote for it...  "Strangers on a train" is very advanced too,  but I have a lot to translate and re-synchronize yet...  I'll do all that I can.
@KUKITYTA

15/03/2010

Excelente general I don´'t look anymore! In order to apply democracy I would prefer the movies :

"The Stranger" or  "The Kennel Murder Case" . Even though I`m not sure to get on time to watch the movie. See you on Fryday (me and my bottle).

Ruth
@YA_NI_MIRO

With no dialogs at all,  no subtitles,  only a few signs between scenes,  I can offer you Thomas Edison's "Frankenstein" (1910) (12') and "The Mark of Zorro" (1920) (1h 14'),  starred by Douglas Fairbanks

I also have "A trip to the Moon" (1902)  (11' 48") by Georges Méliès,  We'll have to read,  but I guess everyone will understand what's happening...
@ALEJANDROVALL

16/03/2010

 he party ( upssss , meeting) will be friday , start of the weekend  I would  sugest something funny , even  closer to our time , but like everyone else I let all of you choose  what you want ,bye Alex like me kids says WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@YA_NI_MIRO

16/03/2010

So you don't want a B/W movie...  Sorry but the "closer to out time" movies I have are: zombies,  vampires or action movies and I don't have the english subtitles for them.  I'll see what I can do,..
@ALEJANDROVALL

16/03/2010

I just want a movie where  the actors  are alive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , bye Alex ,if they are naked better , sorry I coud not hold that

@KUKITYTA

16/03/2010

I asking myself: couldn´t be possible to hire a movie in a videoclub with English subtitules? In order not to charge general I don´t look anymore with all the responsability and work.
@KUKITYTA

16/03/2010

 That's a good and original idea!

 Ruth.
@YA_NI_MIRO

18/03/2010

Trying to please the kind (?) request of our host,  The Reverend,  I prepared the movies listed below.  Notice that they are thrillers,  sci-fi and action movies. ( I've ommited zombies,  vampires and serial killers)  I'm not a fan of comedies,  drama or romantic films...  "The Informant!" has it's moments,  though.

For you Reverend!!  All new movies,  and the actors are still alive...

You're welcome!

"Case 39" (2009) (1h 45')  R. Zellweger

A social worker (Zellweger) fights to save a girl from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she ever expected.

"Edge of Darkness" (2010) (1h 45')  Mel Gibson

As homicide detective Thomas Craven investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.

"Gamer" (2009) (1h 30')  Gerard Butler - Kyra Sedgwick

Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player from a game called "Slayers" looks to regain his independence while taking down the game's mastermind.

"The Informant!" (2009)  (1h 48')  Matt Damon

Mark Whitacre has worked for lysine developing company ADM for many years and has even found his way into upper management. But nothing has prepared him for the job he is about to undertake - being a spy for the FBI. Unwillingly pressured into working as an informant against the illegal price-fixing activities of his company, Whitacre gradually adopts the idea that he's a true secret agent. But as his incessant lies keep piling up, his world begins crashing down around him.

Comedy,  few subtitles to read (actually,  no need of subs),  actors alive,  no shooting,  no blood,  no evil forces...

"Mr. Bean's Holiday" (2007) (1h 25')  Rowan Atkinson - Willem Dafoe

Mr. Bean wins a trip to Cannes where he unwittingly separates a young boy from his father and must help the two come back together. On the way he discovers France, bicycling, and true love, among other things.

Plot summary source IMDB

I've noticed no decision was made about which movie we're going to watch...
